Focus on 1 Goal at a Time
It maybe easy to see the end goal we want; to be healthier, find a new job, start our own company, make more money, take a vacation, the list goes on and on. It can be much harder to find your starting point. Yes, being healthy is important but what does that mean to you specifically? Start at the basics and create building blocks for yourself from there. Maybe you want to run in a marathon this year, how will you start to train? Once you dive into your first step that will open up your next door, such as what are the right kinds of foods to help fuel my run. Starting can be the most challenging part, especially if we do not know where to start. So pick a focus and try not to worry about the next 10 steps they will all fall into place as you being your new adventure.
Set a 3-Month Goal
Once you have narrowed down your focus from our grand New Years Resolution, make a 3-Month goal. This will help you stay on track and create a check-in point for yourself. At the end of your first 3-Months you might discover running a marathon is not for you, and that’s ok you still have 9 more months in the year to create a new plan for yourself and still reach your end goal of being ‘healthier’. Rinse and Repeat, set a new focus for the next 3-Months that will lead you to your goal and knock it down. Or if your first 3-months was a success, keep on it! The point is to find what works for you in your journey, so try not to bang your head on the wall if your first 3-months was not the right start.
Find a Partner in Crime
Two heads are better than one! Four legs are faster than two! Find a motivator in your life, or better yet be the motivator. Do you and your partner want to eat healthier, what better person to check-in with than the person you are cooking with. Enlist them on your side, share your goals and together you can help each other stay accountable. Maybe you want to start a new workout routine and can’t seem to enlist any of your friends to dive into it with you. That’s OK, go and find your starting point alone! Once you have made that first step and made it through the door you will find someone just like you there you can team up with and schedule classes with! The great thing about starting something new you are interested in is there are already like-minded people just like you there!
Plan BIG, start small, stay focused, worry less, do more and most importantly enjoy yourself along the way. Whoever said New Years Resolutions had to be a drag to do, make it FUN and make 2018 one to remember!
